“A photo booth” is not one thing. The setup that lights up a festival is not the one that suits a black-tie gala, and the right choice can change how the whole night feels. Here is how I help clients decide, from behind the booth.
Start with the feeling, not the features
Before you think about equipment, finish this sentence: I want my guests to feel ______. Relaxed and silly? Elegant and special? Proud? Nostalgic? The feeling you are after points straight to the right experience. Everything else is detail.
The everyday workhorse: the open-air booth
For weddings, parties, and most celebrations, an open-air booth with props and a custom overlay is the sweet spot. It is social, it handles a crowd, it photographs beautifully, and it gives everyone a print to take home. If you are not sure what you want, this is almost always the right answer.
Best for: weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, showers, community events.
The elevated option: the Studio Experience
When the night calls for elegance over noise, our Studio Experience trades color and props for editorial, magazine-style black-and-white portraits. It is the same easy, walk-up booth, it just comes out looking like a cover shoot.
Best for: galas, fundraisers, brand activations, milestone celebrations.
The crowd-pleaser: animated GIFs and boomerangs
For festivals and high-energy events, motion wins. Animated GIFs and boomerangs give guests a clip they will watch three times and text to everyone they know, and that gets shared far and wide.
Best for: festivals, school events, anything with a big, lively crowd.
A few questions that make the choice easy
- How many guests? A bigger crowd wants a fast, social, open-air setup.
- What is the dress code? Black tie leans toward the refined Studio look.
- Is there a brand or cause? Then the custom overlay matters most, make sure it is included (with us, it always is).
- Indoor or outdoor? It changes lighting and setup; tell us early so we plan for it.
